Extreme cold temps good for thought

OK, this extreme cold winter season has given me some extra thought, and perhaps a small amount of validation, to create a blog about SW Virginia and New River Valley photography. I've been playing around with this idea for a long time. Most of my thoughts have been around the New River and other waterways throughout Virginia. I'd like to continue this approach, but try to maintain some focus so that the idea does not become too complicated.

I've also been working on a new small business venture. Along with a love and expertise in photography, it turns out I did in fact pick up some handy traits from my dad - who was a lover of all things wood - I don't believe there was every anything he couldn't do nor a tool he didn't have (or want, if you were to ask my mom ;-). But I digress... the point for this story is the business venture. I've begun creating custom wooden lures - mostly turning wood on a lathe, some carved by hand, and others are spinnerbaits and topwater propeller baits that are hand painted and decorated.

I'll be posting some pics and other ideas soon.

Flat Stanley on YouTube

Totally forgot to post the finished Flat Stanley project! Back in early 2009 I finished up the Flat Stanley visit from Florida to Virginia. You can find the finished "Vacation" here on YouTube:

Thanks everyone for your help and enthusiasm! And THANKS Nick for letting your favorite uncle share in this experience!

Flat Stanley

Well "Flat Stanley" arrived last week. Unfortunately its quite bad timing between the workload and this "four-seasons-in-a-day" Virginia weather. But I believe Stanley has had a good time and has been able to see some neat things.

Stanley met some nice friends at the "Valentines' Dance" at my daughter's elementary school Friday night. We were able to capture some pretty nice video of him and his "moves" - Although I must say, I was quite impressed with the kids' dance moves as well. Stanley even got a personal interview with the school principal.

I'll be capturing all this video later this week and hopefully posting a complete adventure movie Online. My nephew sent me Flat Stanley for a project at school. I can't let him down - its the whole "favorite Uncle" thing that I must keep up!
